PE Visa Expiry vs Admitted-Until Date

Timeline at a glance

Two dates, two jobs

The PE visa is the immigration permission used to seek entry under Thailand Privilege conditions. Its expiry date describes the visa’s validity. The arrival or extension stamp records how long you are currently permitted to remain after a particular entry or extension decision.

A visa can still appear valid while the current permitted stay is approaching its end. Conversely, a current stamp must be read in the context of the passport and visa on which it was granted. Never collapse both into one “expiry” field.

What PE members are generally granted

Thailand Privilege states that PE holders are generally granted up to one year of stay per entry, or less when passport or visa validity is shorter. The actual stamp in the passport is the operational record to inspect.

Keep 90-day reporting separate

The 90-day address notification is another clock. Completing it does not extend permission to stay, and extending permission to stay does not necessarily replace the need to monitor the next 90-day notification. A calm overview should show all three: visa validity, admitted-until date and 90-day reporting date.

A safer checking routine

• After every entry, inspect the arrival stamp before leaving the airport.
• Record the admitted-until date exactly as stamped.
• Keep the PE visa expiry as a separate date.
• If an extension is granted, archive the previous stamp and make the latest extension stamp current.
• When dates conflict or a stamp appears wrong, contact Immigration or Thailand Privilege promptly.

Common mistakes

• Assuming a valid visa automatically means the current stay can continue until the same date.
• Treating a 90-day reporting receipt as proof of extended stay.
• Reading an older arrival stamp instead of the latest entry or extension stamp.
• Failing to check a newly issued stamp before leaving the airport or office.
